REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN is the 9th largest country in the world, covering an area of 2,724.9 thousand square kilometers. Geographically, the country is located in the heart of the Eurasian continent, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. The population is 20.3 million people (2025). The capital of Kazakhstan is Astana.
Kazakhstan was the first country in Central Asia and the CIS to host the international specialized exhibition “EXPO-2017” under the theme “Future Energy.”
ON CONSTRUCTION WORKS AND COMMISSIONING OF FACILITIES IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN (2024)
In 2024, the volume of construction works (services) amounted to $17.9 billion, which is 15.3% more than in 2023.
The total area of commissioned housing increased by 7.3% compared to 2023 and amounted to 19,124.2 thousand sq. m., of which 12,293.2 thousand sq. m. were multi-apartment buildings and 6,643.6 thousand sq. m. – individual houses. The majority of the housing – 17,108.3 thousand sq. m. or 89.5% – was commissioned by private developers, including 6,912.2 thousand sq. m. by the population itself.
ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY
Almaty is the country’s largest metropolis and has been Kazakhstan’s economic, cultural, and financial center for many decades. Almaty Region is a rapidly developing area.
In 2024, the Industrial Production Index (IPI) in water supply; sewerage; waste collection, treatment, and disposal, and pollution remediation activities reached 105.6%. Volumes increased in waste collection, processing, and disposal; recycling (recovery) of materials – by 11.7%, and pollution remediation and other waste management services – by 1.5 times.
In electricity, gas, steam, hot water, and air conditioning supply, the IPI reached 101.5%, mainly due to a 7.3% increase in the production and distribution of gaseous fuel via pipelines and a 6.8% increase in the supply of steam, hot water, and conditioned air.
In 2025, $376 million was allocated for water supply and sewerage in Kazakhstan. The funding covers 445 projects for the construction and modernization of water supply systems in cities and rural areas. The works include the reconstruction and expansion of networks (over 8,500 km already updated), as well as the modernization of water treatment facilities. Projects are being implemented in Astana, Almaty, Atyrau, and other regions.
An additional $50 million was allocated for the development of sewerage systems. Equipment wear at wastewater treatment plants in the country reaches 65%. By 2029, it is planned to reduce the wear of water supply networks from 39% to 33%, and sewer networks from 65% to 41%.
